Misha GORDIN comes from Latvia. He was born in 1946 in Riga. As Latvia was at that time a part of the Soviet Union, his cultural world was a Russian one, and his favourite film directors - Parazanow and Tarkowski. Gordin was an engineer but he never worked in his profession. He started taking photographs at the age of 19. First he preferred a portrait, but did not find it satisfying. He discovered the right way - conceptual photography as late as in 1972, when he created his first work "Confession". In 1974 he managed to leave the Soviet Union and started living in the United States. Since that time he has dedicated himself to conceptual photography. His artistic credo is to turn an idea into reality so that the question "is this true" will not come into your head.
I have got a number of his works which fill me with unceasing admiration.
